Born in Barcelona, Spain, Ivan Perez Torras studied cello in the renowned Royal College of Music in London, England as a Foundation Scholar (full scholarship) where he completed his Bachelor and Post Graduate with Distinction as a student of Alexander Boyarsky and Leonid Gorokhov. During his time at the Royal College, he was the recipient of several prizes and scholarships, and performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician.
Ivan Perez Torras has taken part in the prestigious 2000 Prussia Cove International Musician’s Seminar, and has had masterclasses with Steven Doane, Tim Hugh, Natalia Gutman and Patrick Demenga. As an orchestral musician, Ivan was principal cello of the 2000 Jeunesses Musicales World Youth Orchestra, and went on to perform with almost all of the major orchestras in Spain including the Orquesta Sinfonica y Nacional de Catalunya (Barcelona), Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia (La Coruna), Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife (Canary Islands) and the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana (Palau de les Arts). He has worked under renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, and Lorin Maazel.
As a chamber musician, Ivan Perez Torras studied with the Artemis and Endellion String Quartets and the Solomon Piano Trio. He has performed extensively in Spain, London and Germany as a member of several chamber music ensembles such as the ‘I Laureate’ Royal Opera House Soloists, Meli Tango Quintet and the ‘El Dorado’ Piano Trio. He has also recorded extensively for Spanish radio, television and film.
From 2004-2007, Ivan Perez Torras was professor of cello and chamber music at the prestigious Liceu Conservatorio Superior de Musica in Barcelona. He has taught cellists of all ages and abilities and especially enjoys sharing his love for the cello with the younger generation. Ivan Perez Torras is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
